By late 2025, coding agents (Claude Code, OpenAI Codex/GPT-5-Codex, Gemini) could resolve most SWE-bench Verified issues, and METR measured multi-hour 50% task horizons. But they still needed close human supervision and could not reliably do a mid-level engineer's full job. Meta's own timeline slipped: by April 2025 Zuckerberg was saying "12 to 18 months". A strong but weaker version happened, so partial.
